The European American Association is a not-for-profit charitable organization that aims to ease the transition for Europeans moving to America. They can do this through a range of methods, and primarily by providing them with any immediate and pressing requirements they may have, encouraging self help where possible and providing moral support and a friendly ear. Moving to a new country (and especially a new content) is very difficult for a number of reasons – it results in a culture shock, difficulty speaking the language, legal difficulties getting to know the laws around migrating and the local laws in the new area, financial difficulties and often feelings of loneliness and isolation. That is where the European American Association can help.
The European American Association was formed in 1991 by one John Herman who himself was born and raised in Romania before moving to American soil speaking relatively little English. He himself faced many challenges and obstacles and this is what provided him with the idea of formulating an organization that could help other expats to move into a new community. Over time however the roles of the European American Association (or EAA) have grown drastically, as has the size of the organization itself with over 550 employees and counting.
Among other services, the European American Association provide energy assistance, home repair and care for the elderly, develop communities for expats living in close proximity (and provide community gardens), offer consulting and advice and much more. Last year for instance the European American Association helped to provide 100 families each month with food so that they could focus on finding employment and bettering their own living conditions without worrying about their children going hungry. They also helped many elderly individuals to stay in their own homes rather than moving into care by providing them with multilingual aides and other home services. The organization also runs a number of events, and fund raising activities such as an annual walk to raise money for hunger. The European American Association has a website where you can keep up-to-date with news and information or find employment opportunities.

Never have I heard about this before. But it is a great idea. I have never been to Europe before but I am sure that things are done differently there than here in the states. So it is a good idea to transition them so they get used to America more.
I had absolutely no idea that there was an european american association. But I am glad I found out. It might come in handy when I want to leave the continent.
By the way, how was the european american association founded by one guy John Herman? As we was born and raised in Romania, he should have kept his name.
The european american association is very helpful. It helps a lot of people move to america.
It would be nice if there was a similar association but doing the opposite. It should help americans get used to europe. There are so many in the US wanting to move over the atlantic.
I think that creating an association like the European American association was a great idea. I find this European American association very helpful. I too think that moving to another continent is difficult for a person. It is hard for a person to accommodate with an unknown place without any support and the European American association accords you that support. I think this is great.
