European Drugs
European drugs are a large problem in Europe just as they are in the US and elsewhere. It is fair to say that Europe has a drug problem. Just as elsewhere in the world, Europe has problems with drug trafficking as well as with recreational use and this leads to many other problems such as health difficulties, crimes and financial strain for the governments. The EU is of course trying to tackle the problem of European drugs, but as elsewhere, this meets with mixed results.
Of course European drugs vary depending on the country and Europe is a large continent. This depends on the finances of the country, the access to drugs farms, and even the individual laws which vary from country to country. In Belgium and Amsterdam for example Marijuana is a legal drug, and many other mind-bending substances and highs are also legal. Many Europeans then will travel to Europe in order to experience European drugs legally and more safely and may do this as part of a stag party or hen party. Cannabis is also more widely used in other areas of Europe where it is illegal as it is generally classified as a less ‘severe’ drug. Meanwhile though other European drugs are less prevalent, such as Heroin which is far more rare in European countries as a rule (of course this statistic refers to the continent as a whole and it may not be the case in individual countries) – though it is the one most associated with marginalisation and addiction when it is. The use of ‘MDMA’ and ‘Ecstasy’ meanwhile are very popular European drugs particularly in England and some other European countries. Here it is part of the ‘rave’ scene where users will use the drug in order to achieve a high and to experience the music in a different way. It is believed that across Europe, roughly .05% to 15% of the population over 12 years of age has at some point tried drugs (this statistic was recorded by WHO in 1997, and similar results were found by the EMCDDA in 1996).
Patterns in drug use however are only very generally understood, partly due to the fact that many European countries do not participate in drugs surveys. Many of the statistics and information gathered on European drugs is conducted by the EU’s Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (also known as the EMCDDA) though they are generally cautious when making statements about drug patterns across Europe. The EMCDDA also provides information about European drugs, laws and addiction across the EU and has a database of reports.

People travel here for the european drugs. Some even say that some of our european drugs are better than the american ones. Although I can’t really buy that. However, I have never tried any american drug.

there is such a big discussion about these european drugs these days… I think they should legalise some of them. at least the light ones. cannabis should be one of the legalised european drugs, for sure. am i not right?
yes i think you are right they should legalise and keep legalised the softer drugs most of these have never even harmed anyone with that said it should be up to the persons responsibility aswell it is far safer to take drugs if you can get them legally aswell
Authorities should pay more attention to european drugs. They should do more surveys. Statistics are not so accurate nor real when talking about european drugs. I think the number of consumers is higher than the one made public. In my opinion, there are a lot of people taking european drugs
I find it scary that a 12 year old may be doing drugs. I know it happens, but wow. Anyway, I do not agree with making any drugs legal. Drugs are not good for anyone and if they are legal they will just cause trouble.
european drugs are extremely popular among youngsters. people consume european drugs mostly on concerts. so police should pay more attention to this kind of events. rock and electronic music attracts european drugs fans

Most of the european drugs come for South America. Here, in Europe, we don’t produce so many drugs. So basically, the biggest part of european drugs are american. Stop comparing the ones you find in US with european drugs. It is not reasonable.
it’s a sad situation we have come across. european drugs are now sold in schools too. a lot of youngsters are consuming european drugs. we should do something before it’s too late. we should ban european drugs!
There is a huge need for european drugs campaign. Some countries don’t even know what those are. European drugs should disappear. They kill people!! Stay away from european drugs!
I haven’t consumed any European drugs or other drugs. I know that drugs can make you feel like you’re dreaming but they have a lot of other negative effects.

I can’t believe the amount of ridiculous comments here. This article is ridiculously biased. Drugs are not a financial strain on governments, the government profits from controlling the drug trade. If they didn’t try to ban it (an endless task) they wouldn’t waste tax payer dollars. Its the people that truly suffer under drug control. If it were legalized there would be limited profit in trafficking it because it then becomes widely available, therefore less profitable, reducing violence and crime. Its simple supply and demand. If you support drug lords, and every bad thing that has to do with drugs, please continue to perpetuate the problem by supporting these bullshit laws all around the world. The war on drugs is a failure and simply fuels the problem, providing no solution, ever. Why are there so many yuppies here? Oh wait, its a European blog…
I have never heard of using drugs for a stag or a hen party. I assume you are talking about a stag as in when you get married?
I have never been much for the drug scene. I could really care less if the drugs are legal in Europe versus here in the states. I do not do them and never plan on it.

Like you said European drugs are a real problem. They’ve made a lot of victims. There are so many young people that are addicted to them.
I also don’t agree with the fact that in some countries, European drugs are legal.
My friend liked in England for a year and got into the rave scene really bad. Ectasy was a huge European drug that she liked. Needless to say we were all happy when she moved back home. It did her a bunch of harm and was no good for her life.

I, personally, agree with marijuana because is not as harmful as other European drugs are. It is OK that it is legal. But many other European drugs that create addiction must disappear on the planet.
