If you are travelling through Europe then you should consider taking with you a European Journal. By carrying with you a journal this will give you the ability to keep notes during your travels, place tickets and stamps and postcards and take photographs and drawings. Keeping a European journal means that when you get back to your home country you can flick through a record of your travels and your myriad experiences, and can enjoy the feeling of having done so much in likely a limited period of time.
A good European journal should be capable of withstanding at least a basic amount of punishment as you carry it and around with you. As such it is a good idea to get yourself a journal that has a hardened cover and that won’t fold or tear as a result. Leather bound journals are great for this a they are tough while remaining flexible so that they can fit into smaller bags and fit around other stuff etc.
Another great thing about a leather European journal is that it looks almost ‘weathered’ and is appropriate for travelling. If you don’t go for an authentic leather journal, then one that looks leather or otherwise like it’s been around the world a few times will be appropriate for your intended use of the journal.
Once you have chosen your European journal you can use it for many things. Keeping a running commentary of your days events and using it like a diary is one great use and will be very fun to look back on. Likewise though you can stop and use a European journal to draw scenery or architecture that catches your eye during your travels and this adds a whole new artistic element to your explorations. You should also include space to staple or tape in souvenirs such a tickets, receipts or postcards as this can be a great way to keep a physical record of your travels.
Interestingly ‘European Journal’ is also the name of a television news programme that is broadcast in English. Stations in Brussels and Belgium it covers the political and economic developments throughout the EU and elsewhere in Europe. In particular it covers issues that are of concern to Germany being a Deutsch Welle programme. Aired on a weekly basis, in the past it was available in North America through the Newsworld International network though this now no longer exists. It can still be seen in New York on CUNY TV and several PBS stations. It is presented by English journalists Cathy Smith and Jim Gibbons. By keeping your own scrapbook of events and travelling out there yourself, you can now create your own European Journal.

Nowadays, you can easily replace your european journal with your laptop. Or even a blog, when having internet access. Your photos are most likely to be taken digitally, so you can easily upload them on your laptop. I know people who replaced their classic european journal with blogs. And they really like it.
You can’t compare a blog to an european journal. An european journal is way different. Not to mention that you have certain feelings when reading it. Virtual things can’t offer you that.
i used to keep an european journal when traveling around. i was posting pictures and writing my thoughts about the visited places. unfortunately, i lost it in vienna. that’s why it is better to use an online journal than an handwritten european journal.
Keeping an european journal is nice. It is much better to have the old school type of european journal than having a blog or something. As Patricia said, it feels different when reading your thoughts on paper.
That’s why I always carry an european journal with me.
my grandfather kept an european journal. i have read it some time ago. it was a nice feeling finding out how traveling was seen like ages ago. keeping an european journal is old school indeed, but it would be nice for your kids and nephews to get to read your travel journal.
This is a great idea. I was given a journal by my German Club teacher before we left so I could collect my thoughts wherever we were. Plus it was a great place to put my reciepts in the journal of items that I bought as gifts. I never thought about drawing scenery or architecture. This would have been a neat idea to include in my journal.
I don’t see the point in having an european journal. I keep my photos on my laptop and I also use a traveling blog. I prefer carrying my laptop with me, as it is useful also in other ways, not only in updating the blog. Updating the facebook, for instance, haha
So yeah, I keep an european journal. A virtual one.
Keeping a journal is a great idea. I do suggest that you look for one that is sturdy. I would want a journal that is bound so it holds together better. I like the look of leather as well but would not have to have it. Maybe even fashion some way for the pen to stick to the journal so a pen will always be handy.
I like Brad’s idea of a virtual journal. But at the same time I like to be able to have something to look at other than a computer. I do store my photos on the computer, but on the computer you would not be able to draw the sketches that Ty was talking about. But then I guess that is what a camera is for.
I keep a travel journal with me at all times. You just never know when you are going to need it. I love the idea of sketching things in your book. Or I write down things I saw, such as a child playing with a balloon and how she looked. It makes it come all back to me years down the road when I do this.
I never used anything like this. But my sister does own an european journal. She finds it useful. She enjoys reading it from time to time. That way, she remembers the nice nice things that happened when traveling. So keeping an european journal is not a bad thing.
I have an European journal. I have had a lot of journeys in Europe. Every time I am having a new adventure I write in it, and most of them are very funny.
I’m actually thinking make even a book with the help of these memories I have been writing in my European journal. And if I do that it will be like a comedy book, with weird and amusing adventures.
I think that Travel journals are the way to go. It is a good idea to keep it with you at all times so you can write down what you see or how you feel in certain situations. I take one with me when I travel and carry it everywhere. I never used to and would think I will write it down some other time. Then I would forget. So I make it a point to carry my travel journal with me where ever I go.
I have a journal that I keep for traveling as well. I think that it will someday be a wonderful memory for my kids and grandkids to see where I have all traveled at. I right down what I see and how I feel. I have been to Europe once and filled many pages in my book on my travels there. Maybe one day my kids or grandkids will want to travel to a place just because I wrote about it in my travel journal.
I have a good memory, so I don’t need an European journal to remember me about my trips. I couldn’t forget any of my journeys because they were full of adventurous moments.
An European journal would be good for somebody who doesn’t have a good memory and maybe somebody who want to tell stories to his nieces.
However, best reminders are pictures and they are good as souvenirs too.
Carrying with you an European journal is a good idea. But with all my adventures in Europe I would need a lot of journals. I’m glad because I have a great memory and I don’t have to take an European journal everywhere I go.
A good idea is that after you come from your trip, to write down your thoughts and memories. This way you’ll always have a reminder of your good times.
A European journal is almost all I need when I make a trip.
I need a European journal because I don’t have the memory to remember all my adventures. My European journal remembers me all my beautiful moments.
I have a great journal with photos of people I’ve meet and become friends, with all beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
I can say that my European journal is a treasure to me.
I guess I don’t need a European journal. Some photos to remind me about the places I visited are enough. A European journal is helpful just if don’t have a good memory.
Maybe, if you are an artistic person, you can create a great thing. You can personalize the European journal with your adventures and photos and it will become a great personal object.
I haven’t thought to make a European journal yet. This might be interesting. Saving my thoughts in a European journal might help me when I grow old. My adventures will be safe in this personal journal.
Maybe I’ll think about this and make my own European journal starting from my next trip.
Journaling is a great way to remember all the fun you have had. I keep a journal for all my trips and vacations. I think that they are nice to pass on from generation to generation as well. I highly recommend doing this.
I hadn’t known that European journal is the name of a television news programme. More interesting would have been if European journal had been the name of a TV show about traveling in Europe. I would like a TV show like this one. Europe is an interesting continent. It deserves to be discovered.
Traveling around Europe is the best adventure a man can have. Seeing that diversity of cultures, people and those beautiful places is a unique thing.
A European journal can be your friend whenever you want to write your feelings and your thoughts. I have a European journal because every time I make a travel I need to write down what I experienced. I must write all my adventures and all my feelings.
I’ve never thought having a European journal. I’m not a person who likes to write down what she feels or her thoughts. With all these having a European journal sounds interesting. This journal could be a nice reminder when I grow old. I’m sure I’ll laugh when I read what I wrote.
Carrying a European journal when I’m traveling is a little bit hard. I travel for business so I never have time to write in it. A good idea for having a European journal is to write my thoughts on my notebook. I couldn’t live without this device.
So, maybe someday I’ll start my own European journal because I have a lot of things to write in it.
I don’t think that carrying a European journal with you is a good idea. I don’t see the point of a European journal. I prefer photos to be the ones which remind me about my journeys. They speak more about the places you visit and people you meet. Words are just words.
I’m sure I have a lot of things to write in a European journal. I travel very much. This idea of carrying a journal is very good. But I am not sure that I have time to write in a European journal. Most of the time, I travel for business, not for pleasure.
I agree with you that by carrying a European journal during your travels, you’ll be able to take notes of everything that happens. To me this sounds very good. I never thought to have a European journal. Starting from my next trip I’ll make my own journal. I’m sure I’ll have a lot of interesting things to write in it.
I haven’t thought so far to carry a European journal with me. It’s not a bad idea. But I am not so good at writing. If I want to make European journal, first I must learn how to write in it. Also I must visit beautiful European countries to have what to write…
I would not invest time in a European journal. I don’t see how a European journal could help me. I have a very good memory. I don’t need a piece of paper to remind me about my trips. Journals are outdated anyway.
