Laptops in Europe

Laptops in Europe are highly popular for their practicality and their ease of use – just as they are in the US. In fact they are more popular these days than desktops in many countries and as a rule laptops in Europe are easier to find than desktop computers in Europe. Go to any computer store in Europe and you will be most likely to find it filled with laptop computers as opposed to desktops and this is likely to reflect similarities in the European lifestyle – of always being on the go and of always needing to be connected to the office and to work. But are there any differences between laptops in Europe and laptops in the US? Is there anything that you need to know when using American laptops in Europe? And can you buy them from abroad?

Price

One thing that might lead you to suspect there is a difference between laptops in Europe and laptops in the US is the price difference, and laptops in Europe are renowned for being much more expensive that those in the US. Take a UK model of a laptop and you can expect to pay literally twice as much – a $2,000 laptop can be found for around £2,000 and that equates to just below $4,000. This might lead one to think that laptops in Europe are somehow superior in quality or design – but is this in fact the case?

The answer is no – and in terms of quality both laptops in Europe and the US are completely the same. So what makes this price difference? Well for one it’s the VAT which is higher in Europe than in the US. Then there’s the fact that the pound and the Euro are priced higher than the dollar and this means that many products are more expensive in Europe – not just laptops. Then there’s the fact that many of the manufacturers themselves are based in the US and that therefore means that to provide laptops in Europe they will need to make alterations on top of the initial design and then export the product.

Model

There is one physical difference between laptops in Europe and those in the US though and that’s the keyboard. A UK keyboard will land you one extra key and a slightly different layout. For those hoping to import laptops from or to Europe though this needn’t present a problem as changes to the settings can easily cause the keyboards to behave as though they have a different keyboard to the physical one. You will also of course be packaged with European instructions and packaging, and a European adapter.

Using Your Laptops in Europe

If you take a European laptop to America or an American laptop to Europe everything should work the same but you will need a power adapter. If you are on some kind of internet package using a dongle or tethering on your mobile meanwhile remember to turn data roaming off or you can risk racking up very high charges.

Why are laptops in Europe more expensive than in US? I don’t understand this. They all should have the same price or at least similar. Aren’t they all made by the same producer? In my opinion laptops in Europe should have the same price with those from US.

Laptops in Europe are indeed very popular. I don’t know anybody which doesn’t have a laptop. Laptops in Europe are very used. I know a family where every member has its own laptop. Laptops are something personal and I agree with this idea.

I know laptops in Europe are very popular. They are something necessary. Moreover they started to replace desktops. However I don’t have one. I should buy one, but right now I don’t have the money to buy it.

I agree with Ferdoo regarding laptops in Europe. They really started to replace desktops. Laptops are more practical. Compared to desktops you can use laptops in Europe wherever you want. They are portable and easier to use.

I consider that laptops in Europe are something indispensable. I cannot think how my life would be without my laptop. I use it every day. I use it at work, at home, in park, wherever I want. I think laptops in Europe are indeed necessary.

Holy Cow! Paying $4000 for a laptop seems just crazy to me. I paid about $1000 for mine and it is very nice. It would be cheaper for them to make a weekend and come to the US and get one!

I do have a laptop. It isn’t one of the best or expensive laptops in Europe but it is very useful. Personally I use it every day.
Also, laptops in Europe are widespread. Almost every person has its own.

I have a laptop that I paid about $600 for and it is great. I would never pay like the Europeans have paid for theirs. $4000 is just way to steep for me. That is like buying a cheap car over here in the US!

I don’t see why people think laptops in Europe are so necessary. I don’t think that. I don’t have a laptop and I’m ok. I would not pay $4000 for an item like this. There are other more important things to buy than laptops in Europe.

I think laptops in Europe are highly used. I too think they are necessary. And laptops in Europe are not expensive at all. I paid $700 for my own. This isn’t much no?

I bought a couple of laptops in Europe. I am happy with the products. BTW, in comparison, it is said that the services here are better. Compared to US, of course.

PS: pauyla, laptops in europe are not necessarily more expensive than in the US.

Laptops in Europe and US are completely the same indeed. This is regarding quality. Regarding price it is a big difference between laptops in Europe and those from the US. As I know, those from Europe are more expensive. But I do not understand why??
